Defence Minister in Galway today for Distinguished Service Medals ceremony

Minister for Defence Helen McEntee is in Galway this morning for a Distinguished Service Medal ceremony.

Four people - including Fr Paul Murphy who was injured in a stabbing at Renmore Barracks in 2024 - are being honoured at the presentation.

The army chaplain was attacked by a teenager with a knife during an incident on the 15th August 2024, sustaining serious injuries

Three other members of the forces, Corporal Daniel Padden, Private Dylan Geraghty and Private Ciara Shanahan, will also be honoured for their brave actions during the incident in Renmore

Following the morning ceremony, the Minister will officially open a new accommodation block for members of the Defence Forces.
