Demand for action after Ballybane named major litter blackspot

The war against littering is being lost in Ballybane and a handle has to be gotten on the problem now - before it's too late.

That's according to a local councillor after the latest IBAL national litter survey showed Ballybane is a serious blackspot in Galway City.

While the city overall is in the top 10 cleanest areas in the country, Ballybane was almost at the bottom of the national urban tables.

The latest report placed it second only to Dublin’s North Inner City, and once again pointed to long-term dumping and neglect.

Fine Gael Councillor Shane Forde says the current approach just isn't working.
