1.4 million euro has been announced for repair and improvement works on rural roads across Galway.
The Local Improvement Scheme will provide the funding for non-public roads and laneways, which are not normally maintained by local authorities
The allocation breaks down as just over €1.1m for rural roads and laneways across the county, and €250,000 for eligible roads on Galway’s offshore islands.
Local authorities are responsible for identifying and prioritising roads for works under the scheme, in consultation with residents/landowners.
Galway East TD and Junior Minister Sean Canney has said that works funded under this allocation will be carried out during suitable weather conditions to maximise delivery this year.
