A group in the EU Parliament has appointed a local MEP as its lead negotiator on future Common Agricultural Policy, or CAP.
Fine Gael MEP Nina Carberry has been appointed by the the European People's Party, the largest grouping in the European Parliament.
She'll lead their efforts on the implementation of CAP between 2028 and 2034.
Earlier this year, a different political group, Renew Europe, announced local Fianna Fail MEP Barry Cowan would lead their negotiations.
MEP Carberry says she'll shortly be preparing amendments to the proposed CAP, and beginning consultation with farmers and communities.
