An extra 3.25 million euro in Government funding has been announced for the Galway Regional Aquatic Project
The proposed allocation would close the remaining funding gap identified by Galway City Council, allowing it to move toward construction phase.
City planners gave the €20m project the go-ahead last June - and it would be based at a site accessed from Altán Road and Millers Lane.
The plans are for a competition standard swimming pool with spectator area, sauna and steam rooms, a multi functional sports court and a gym.
It'll also have a coffee dock, 75 car parking spaces and 89 bike parking spaces.
