Final preparations are being made for tomorrow's city centre Oyster Festival Flags Parade
The 71st annual Galway International Oyster Festival is now underway.
Organisers say they have a vibrant new citywide format - with a huge range of events across the weekend.
"He was a bold man that first ate an Oyster" - a memorable quote from Jonathon Swift, though it's now hundreds of years later and appetites are only growing.
From the Latin Quarter to the Docklands this weekend - the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival promises something for everyone.
There's too much to mention, but among the highlights are food demonstrations, guided food trails, boat tours, sailing displays, live music, and a wide range of family activities.
And of course, there'll be the World Oyster Opening Championships tomorrow afternoon.
But before that, there'll be a flag parade and marching band setting off from Eyre Square around 2pm to celebrate competitors from 18 different countries.
The festival is now underway and runs until Sunday evening - and details on the full programme can be found at GalwayOysterFestival.com
