Galway County Council has seen its first new councillor elected.

Clifden native, Gerry King, is a fish farmer and was voted in following the third count at The Galway Lawn Tennis Club count centre.

The new Fianna Fail councillor says rural regeneration and ensuring the security of rural communities will be a major focus of his term.
