Five Connemara areas are set to be deemed 'urban speed limit zones' as part of a countywide review.
They are Barna, Oughterard, Moycullen, Clifden and Spiddal, and the review recommends a busy portion of each of these areas come under a 30km/hour zone.
Members of the public will have a chance to learn more about the plans once it goes through more consultation.

A presentation was given to Connemara county councillors on the Countywide Speed limit review, highlighting its preliminary draft proposals.
It outlined some of the national recommendations, along with the areas in Connemara which will be deemed urban speed limit zones.
Following the presentation, Councillor Tomas O Curraoin asked for a workshop to air concerns and make suggestions, which will take place next month.
Independent Councillor Tom Welby welcomed the plan, but raised concerns from some of the other areas not included:
Meanwhile Fine Gael Councillor Eileen Mannion was worried that rural schools won't fall into the 50 zone like those deemed in 'urban' areas:
Independent Ireland Councillor Noel Thomas hopes the plan will go further than signage, saying the effects tend to wear off over time
The Chamber was told the public consultation will happen during the summer, and the county council is looking to have the bye-law process completed by the end of October this year.
The aim is then to have the changes implemented by March 2027.
