Five sets of historic, skeletal human remains have been found during the excavation at the former mother and baby home in Tuam.
The remains are consistent with the Workhouse era of 1841 to 1918, before the site housed the mother and baby institution, and are undergoing analysis.
The excavation of the former mother and baby home site in Tuam has been ongoing for 10 weeks.
Along with the human remains, the latest discoveries include personal and medicinal items dating back to the institutional era, such as pottery, shoes, and glass baby bottle feeders.
The works have also uncovered an underground vaulted structure, access to which is blocked by debris.
Consultations are underway on how to safely access the structure.
The excavation of the former mother and baby home is expected to last at least two years.
