COPE Galway has marked its 60th anniversary in the city with a well-attended special event.
Among those in the front row at the Druid Theatre were former President Michael D. Higgins, Sabina Coyne Higgins, and former WHO Deputy-Director, Dr. Mike Ryan.
COPE was first founded in late 1965 as the Galway Social Service Council and since then has been known as many things.
Now, as COPE Galway, it helps thousands of people every year through it's homelessness, domestic violence, and older persons support services.
And key to that work are the hundreds of volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time to supporting those in need and building up sustainable communities.
David Nevin and John Morley were at the event to speak to many of those working with COPE Galway, as well as the special guests in attendance, about their work, legacy, and ambition for the future.
Below, in order, you'll hear from Sabina Coyne Higgins, Assistant CEO Martin O' Connor, Head of Domestic Abuse Services Gillian McNamee, Head of Homelessness Services Sinead Cleary, Head of Senior Support Services Louise McLaughlin, CEO Michael Smyth, Michael D. Higgins, and Dr. Mike Ryan.
