Galway County Council must take ownership of Dunguaire Castle to avail of a new steam of capital funding

Tourism Minister Peter Burke is putting in place capital funding through Fáilte Ireland for historical monuments owned by local authorities

The County Council has a deadline of the end of Feburary to take ownership from the Shannon Group, otherwise the Castle will be put on the open market

The castle has been closed to the public for three years and it's estimated that 5 million euro is neede for its upgrade to re-open as an amenity

Galway Talks John Morley put it to Galway-based Senator PJ Muprhy that this is still a risk for the County Council
