Galway County Council urged to revoke public lighting contract with Electric Skyline

Galway County Council is being urged to revoke its contract with Electric Skyline for public lighting repairs.

Councillor Jimmy McClearn says faults are supposed to be dealt with within ten-working days, but some are being left for up to ten weeks.

A Galway County Council representative has said they will seek a report from Electric Skyline to find out what the issues are.

Fine Gael Councillor McClearn says we need to seriously look at the level of service being provided and explore other options

In response to a query on the matter from Galway Bay FM, an Electric Skyline spokesperson says some repairs may take longer than the standard 10-day timeframe due to factors beyond its control.

They add this can include cable faults requiring fault-finding and civil works, the need for traffic management or assistance from the ESB where the light has a direct feed/unbundling issue.

The statement also says Electric Skyline 'always aim to complete repairs within 10 working days' and where this is not possible, it notifies the Local Authority accordingly.
