Galway doctor pleads guilty to careless driving causing death of his daughter

A Galway doctor has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of his 6-year-old daughter

Babak Meshkat of An Cimín Mór, Cappagh Road, Co Galway was charged following a crash at the M6 in Co Westmeath on February 8 2024

Babak Meshkats daughter, Hana Meshkat, died at Childrens Health Ireland hospital in Temple Street Dublin nine days after the incident.

Last year, the accused was charged and sent for trial to the Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court.

The case resumed yesterday and there was an application from the prosecution to amend the original charge of dangerous driving causing death to a lesser charge of careless driving causing death.

Babak Meshkat replied with a guilty plea when the reworded charge was put to him and he was not required to give evidence at this stage

He was remanded on continuing bail to appear again for facts and sentencing on July 22nd
