Galway has the fourth highest number of learner drivers in the country.
That's according to new figures released by the Road Safety Authority, behind Dublin. Cork and Kildare.
There are 18,870 learner drivers on Galway roads as of this March, which is an increase of 400 on the same month last year.
The report shows that nationally there were just over 388 thousand learner permit holders on Irish roads at the end of March which is just over 6,000 more than last year.
The figures were released by the RSA to the Irish Road Haulage Association which says they show 1 in 10 drivers on Irish roads are on a learner permit.
Hauliers President Ger Hyland adds that the figures indicate that the Road Safety Authority is out of its depth, unable to manage driver testing backlogs and failing at road safety.
