Galway in top 5 counties for generating wind energy

Galway is in the top five counties for generating wind energy.

Last month was the best June on record for Irish wind farms - and was also a record month for Irish solar farms.

The latest report from Wind Energy Ireland says renewable energy provided nearly a third of Ireland’s electricity during the first half of the year - which helped save millions of euro on importing gas.

Kerry was the top producer of wind energy last month, followed by Cork, Mayo, Galway and Offaly.

The share of electricity demand met by Irish wind farms in June, at 30%, was up slightly when compared to June 2024 and it was also a record month for Irish solar farms.

The monthly report also shows that the demand for electricity during June increased marginally from 3,019 gigawatt-hours (GWh) to 3,151 GWh in the same month last year.
