Galway records one of highest proportion of derelict homes in 2025

Galway, Mayo and Donegal recorded the highest proportion of derelict homes in 2025.

That's according to the GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report for Quarter 4 - which shows the residential vacancy rate in Galway was 5 percent - higher than the national average of 3.7%

Over 1,700 residential address points in Galway were added to the database in 2025 - while just over 1,600 residential buildings were under construction at the end of the year.

The report shows the national vacancy rate for houses is at its lowest level ever, with CEO Dara Keogh saying efforts to revive vacant buildings have been very successful.
