Research from the University of Galway is being described as a major step forward in improving treatment for bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer is one of the world's most common cancers and the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide.

The team has found a way to reverse how the immune system shuts down, which opens up the opportunity for a new approach to optimising immunotherapy.

Aideen Ryan, Professor in Tumour Immunology at University of Galway's College of Medicine, says the finding will inform the development of new treatments
