Galway Students win awards at 2026 Stripe Young Scientist of the Year

Eight projects from five Galway schools were recipients of awards at the 2026 Stripe Young Scientist of the Year held at the RDS in Dublin.

The eight awards included a 1st Senior Individual in Technology, 1st Senior Group in Health & Wellbeing, 1st Intermediate group in Social & Behavioural Sciences and the ECAS 112 Award for best project in Irish.

It was a successful week for five Galway schools at the Stripe Young Scientist of the Year with eight projects all winning awards.

Dominican College were crowned 1st Senior Group in Health and Wellbeing with Deepta Suresh and Janefrances Muoneke’s project “From Vessel Support to Insulin Production: A Prototype Stent for Diabetes Complications”.

Another first place went to Portumna Community School with Eve Kenny, Aisling Treacy and Allie Callanan’s “Does the Autism Label Change How We See Our Classmates” taking first in the Intermediate Group Social & Behavioural Sciences category.

Colaiste Naomh Eoin, Presentation College Headford and Colaiste Muire Mathair took home two awards each.

Colaiste Naomh Eoin’s Solomon Ó Gliasáin’s project “Ag úsáid córas nua, le cabhair intleachta saorga, chun canúintí díothaithe na Gaeilge a athchruthú” was 1st Senior Individual in Technology with the same project also awarded the ECAS 112 Award for best project in Irish.

Presentation College Headford’s Eve Kenny took the AirNav Ireland Safety Innovation Award for her project “Memory metal crumple zones” while Ailbhe Hartnett and Sophie McKenna were third Junior Group in Technology with their project “Poor women’s telescope in this economy”.

Colaiste Muire Mathair’s Liya Walsh & Crystal Quinn took The Irish Science Teachers Association Award for “Breaking The Bias: Have science books evolved enough to represent female scientists fairly” and they were joined by Muhammad Ashir Anwar who was 2nd Junior Individual in Technology with his project “NeuroSync: AI Powered Support for Cognitive and Neurological Care”.
