Galwayman criticises 'revolving door' of A&E visits for those in mental health crisis

Galway man Joe Loughnane has told an oireachtais committee that the 'revolving door' of A&E visits for those in a mental health crisis is 'forcing people to end their own lives'.

Speaking to the committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen last evening, Joe called for the establishment of dedicated Mental Health A&E's.

Joe's younger brother, Adam, died by suicide following a visit to the UHG emergency department in February of last year.

The Adam's protocols petition calling for the dedicated A&Es now has over 21,000 signatures.
