Gardaí are to increase high visibility patrols in Galway City for the Christmas and New Year.
Garda personnel will also be assigned to specific retail crime detection operation.
Additional uniformed Garda personnel will be deployed on foot patrol across Galway city centre between peak business hours and there will be increased foot patrols during peak weekend socialising hours.
In addition, Garda personnel will be assigned to deal specifically with retail crime detection.
This activity will be supported by wider detective and plain clothes resources from the Galway Division and will be guided by crime data analysis.
They will also adopt a tougher approach to dealing with criminal offences and will pursue a pro-arrest policy for repeat offenders, including strong bail objections where appropriate.
Superintendent Paudie O’Shea, Galway City Community Engagement, says Gardaí will adopt a robust approach to policing any offences detected, including public order offences, drug-related activity or anti-social behaviour
Gardaí are also asking motorists to park responsibly and to consider the impact of their parking on pedestrians and other road users.
