The Government has announced plans to develop a new Naval Service base on the west coast.

The goal was set out in Ireland's National Maritime Security Strategy 2026-2030 - the first policy of its kind for the country.

It outlines steps to enhance the monitoring of Irish waters, and strengthen coordination between defence and security agencies.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Independent Senator Gerard Craughwell says the plans are ambitious and will need significant investment
