Gráinne Seoige is warning the lack of regulation around deepfake images "will be the abuse scandal of the 21st century, if we don't act now".
The TV presenter from Spiddal is appearing before the Oireachtas Media Committee this afternoon.
She is speaking about her experience of explicit deepfake images being shared during her Galway West general election campaign for Fianna Fail last year.
She says she's received hundreds of messages from people affected by this issue since opening up about her experience:
