The HSE is to appear before the Dáil Health Committee today to answer questions on maternity services at Portiuncula Hospital.
High risk pregnancies have been moved away from the hospital, amid reviews into the deaths of several babies there.
Galway Roscommon TD Martin Daly, who's a member of the Health committee secured the invitation for national and regional HSE representatives
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Pádraig Rice said the Committee is acutely aware of the significant concerns related to this maternity unit and the decision to transfer women with higher-risk pregnancies to Galway University Hospital and other units.
He added the Committee will examine this decision and seek assurances from the HSE that it's implementing the recommendations from these reviews with a view to providing a safer service for the region and protecting rural maternity services.
