HSE appears to scrap plans for elective hospital at Merlin Park

It appears after years of development, the HSE has scrapped plans to build a new elective hospital at Merlin Park.

The matter was raised in the Dáil by Galway West TD John Connolly.

Minister Mary Butler seemed to confirm that the new vision is an expansion of the surgical hub under construction at Merlin Park.

Rather than an elective hospital, the would be a much smaller "elective care centre" attached to the surgical hub.

Fianna Fail Deputy Connolly is concerned that overall, it's a significant downgrade on the original vision - and that will impact on UHG.
