HSE CEO admits Health Authority 'came up short' implementing Walker Report recommendations in Portiuncula Maternity

The CEO of the HSE has admitted that they 'came up short' in implementing recommendations from the Walker Report in Portiuncula Maternity.

At a meeting of the Oireachtas Health Committee, Bernard Gloster apologised on behalf of the HSE to the people of Ballinasloe for the ongoing issues at the hospital.

Seven reviews into the care of women and babies accessing maternity services at Portiuncula have been completed, with 5 more in progress.

Mr Gloster went on to say that recommendations from reports are not easy to implement.
