Leave has been granted at the High Court for a judicial review to be taken against the approval of a major expansion project at Galway Harbour.
The project would not just upgrade harbour facilities for increased trade and tourism, but establish a whole new maritime quarter in the city.
But local cycling activist Shane Foran argues that due consideration was not given to the impact of heavy goods vehicles on various city roads during construction.
He claims there could be up to 5,300 tonnes of cargo a day on city roads shared with cyclists and pedestrians, including schoolchildren.
It's further argued out that many of the routes have no cycling facilities at all, and Mr. Foran claims there's no analysis of the impact of the increased traffic on vulnerable road users.
