Just 2% of first time buyers that have been approved for the the First Home scheme are from Galway.
Since July of 2022, 158 out of the 9,008 total nationwide approvals were from Galway buyers.
The €740 million euro fund was set up to help aspiring home owners to bridge the gap between their mortgage, deposit and price of a new home.
To date, almost 5,000 homes have been purchased using the scheme, which is part of the Governments 'Housing for all' strategy.
This comes as the average price of a semi-detached 3 bedroom house in Galway City surpasses €400 thousand.
