Galway City and County Councils issued just one dog fouling fine each last year.
Nationally, 48 fines were issued, according to data collected by Vision Ireland, who are launching their 'Clean Our Paths' campaign.
Cork County Council issued the most fines for dog fouling at 11, followed by Cavan and Fingal in Dublin which issued 6 each.
