A Killconnell farmer has pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a then 16 year old girl on board a transatlantic Aer Lingus flight bound for Boston.
The incident, involving 58 year old Patrick Noone of Curragh, Kilconnell, Ballinasloe happened on November 15th 2023.
This incident took place on-board an Aer Lingus flight heading to Boston, about one hour into the journey.
A 16 year old teenager told cabin crew that a male passenger sitting beside her had touched her inappropriately.
The alleged actions of Mr Noone - who did not know the girl - were reported to the captain and a decision was made to turn back.
Mr. Noone has now pleaded guilty to sexual assault of the girl by rubbing and grabbing her buttocks, as well as kissing her arm and rubbing her thigh.
At Ennis Circuit Court, his legal counsel said he's a self employed farmer with no previous convictions.
They asked for a probation report for the sentencing hearing as it may provide insight into his offending.
He hasn't been named before now in connection with the sexual assault but Judge Francis Comerford said he saw no basis for reporting restrictions.
Court previously heard that the cost to Aer Lingus of the Boston-bound flight returning to Shannon Airport was almost €30 thousand.
