Fewer than 50 housing commencements in Galway City since January

There have been fewer than 50 housing commencement notices lodged in Galway City since the start of the year.

A commencement notice is a signal of intent to start construction works.

In Galway City, none were issued during the month of January, while 49 were issued in February.

Meanwhile, in County Galway, there were 94 commencement notices issued in January, and a further 72 last month.

Nationally, notices for 2026 so far are significantly higher than those for 2025 - but are falling well short of figures for 2024.
