MEP for Midlands North West, Maria Walsh, is calling for an interconnected EU emergency number.
The new number would allow for any emergency call in the EU to be transferred to another member state.
The calls comes following the death by suicide of a young Italian girl following attempts by her friend from Estonia to alert authorities in Italy.
The Fine Gael MEP believes that the the system would save lives.
