Ireland's offshore islands are in danger of being left behind because of red-tape and under-investment.
That's according to local MEP Ciaran Mullooly, after representatives from Ireland's offshore islands visited the EU Parliament in Brussels.
They attended as part of the European Small Islands Federation - and warned of the devastating impact of long-running delays to vital projects on piers, harbours and transport links.
They also highlighted Ireland's particularly strict environmental designations, as well as higher barriers to accessing EU funding compared to other European islands.
MEP Mullooly thinks the EU needs to looking at making pathways to funding more accessible.
