Long-established Tuam Herald newspaper sold to Celtic Media Group

The long-established Tuam Herald newspaper has been sold to the Irish-owned Celtic Media Group which has several local newspapers in its stable including The Connaught Telegraph

The formal transfer has taken place at the offices of TA O'Donoghue Canney and Co Solicitors in Tuam

The Tuam Herald was first published in 1837 while three generations of the Burke family have been responsible for managing the title for almost a century

David Burke, Managing Director of The Herald Printing and Publishing Company said he and his fellow director Mary Burke are pleased to exit the business having gone far beyond normal retirement age

He added they are leaving the paper in good hands and publishing will continue as normal

The Dublin Road premises is not part of the deal but the paper will continue to operate from there
