President Catherine Connolly has been officially bestowed the Freedom of the City of Galway.
President Connolly was elected to Galway City Council in 1999, and then served Galway West in the Dáil from 2016 until she was elected President last year.
President Connolly has become the 33rd recipient of this prestigious honour, joining the likes of Douglas Hyde, Éamon de Valera, US President Ronald Reagan, and Garry Hynes.

Later this evening President Connolly will officially open the uachtarARTS Community Arts Group annual exhibition in Oughterard.
The group is launching its summer programme, kicking off the season at Oughterard Community Courthouse today.
