Mental Health Ireland is encouraging the establishment of the Connect Café Movement in Connemara
It brings people together for conversation and conviviality to counteract impersonal connections on phones and tech
While a cup of tea or coffee may be available, the Connect Café may not be a Café as we understand it. The basic idea is that people would have a reason to come together regularly.
The idea originated in America and was brought to Ireland 4 years ago, with the first branch in Balbriggan in Dublin.
Connemara is seen as an where such an initiative could play an important role in the community; distance and rural isolation are associated with loneliness and the movement called Thrive wants to counter those factors this Christmas, and always.
