Former President Michael D. Higgins will be bestowed with an honorary doctorate at the ATU campus in Letterfrack later today.
ATU says it recognises his exceptional contribution to public life, literature, the arts, and human rights over many decades.
The ceremony takes place at 2.30pm, and will also honour Mary V. Mullin, a highly influential figure in design education and cultural development.
Previously, in 2013, Michael D. Higgins was among the first group ever to be awarded an honorary fellowship at GMIT, in recognition of his service to public life.
