Galway City Partnership’s rooftop balcony garden on the Headford Road has been officially opened by Minister Dara Calleary.
Situated above Lidl the roof area has been transformed into an urban oasis of organic vegetables, a variety of herbs and salads and a fig tree in the greenhouse.
Galway City Partnership CEO, Linda Sice Brogan says they wanted to show how locally produced food can reduce the carbon footprint of supply chains and show that any urban space can be transformed to provide locally grown produce.
The project is tended by participants on the Tús and Community Employment programmes with support from Hinterland.
Minister Calleary told the gathering last evening that Galway City Partnership is a highly effective and dynamic partner for his Departments in providing social inclusion and employment services across the city
