A motion has been backed for Galway County Council to proactively plan for the specific housing needs of older people.
Councillor Evelyn Parsons says recent Census data shows there's an increase in people over the age of 65.
She is calling for a report on the potential role of retirement villages, as well as downsizing and rightsizing opportunities and age-friendly developments.
The Independent Ballinasloe Cllr says we need to forward-plan to ensure housing options reflect the population needs - enabling people to live independently, safely and with dignity.
