Taoiseach to investigate why UHG without PET scanner until 2033

The Taoiseach has said he will look into why UHG has to wait the best part of a decade before a PET scanner is installed.

PET scans are crucial in cancer diagnosis, and the matter's been raised in the Dáil by Galway East TD Louis O' Hara.

He told the chamber it's completely unacceptable that there's no public scanner in Galway - and even worse, one won't be installed until at least 2033.

A recent Health Forum West meeting heard that the HSE spends almost €2m a year on private PET scans for public patients in Galway.
