New adult eating disorder team announced for Galway

A new adult eating disorder team has been announced for Galway which will be in addition to the current CAMHS service

It will also serve people in Roscommon, while a new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service eating disorder team has also been announced for Waterford.

Minister for Mental Health Mary Butler has made the announcement to mark Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

The addition of these two teams will bring the total number of teams being funded to 16, however only 11 of those are currently operational.

The remaining five are in recruitment or development stages.

The new Galway service will be located alongside the existing CAMHS eating disorder team at Merlin Park.

The commencement of the new teams is part of the nationwide rollout of the HSE’s National Clinical Programme on Eating Disorders

It's supported by an extra investment of over €3 million this year, bringing the total annual investment in specialist eating disorder care to over €14m.
