Neither Galway city or county council collected any derelict property tax in 2024.
They're two of eleven local authorities to not collect a single cent in derelict property tax - despite having jurisdiction for thousands of uninhabitable homes
The other local authorities were Cavan, Donegal, Fingal, Leitrim, Longford, Monaghan, Tipperary, Westmeath, and Wicklow
26 million euro in derelict site tax levies went uncollected in 2024.
The Department of Finance estimates there are 19,000 derelict properties across the country which could be brought back into use.
