No Galway area included in first phase of Galway-Athlone greenway
The first phase of the development of the Galway-Athlone greenway will not include any Galway area.
That was the message delivered at County Hall yesterday, with councillors hearing the first section of the long-awaited project will go from Athlone to Shannonbridge.
This is something both council officials and councillors were less than pleased with - and the Chief Executive says a case will be made for the first phase to continue to Ballinasloe.
Westmeath County Council is the lead authority on the project, but Galway County Council will be able to lead sections in this county.
Ballinasloe Councillor Alan Harney believes it would make a lot more sense for the first phase to extend into Ballinasloe
