Number of COVID-19 patients in Galway ICUs down by half

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The number of COVID-19 patients in Galway ICUs has dropped by half in the last week.

There are three Coronavirus patients in intensive care at UHG today and none in the ICU at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

That's compared to six between both hospitals this time last week.

Overall, there are nine COVID-19 patients being treated in the city and county today, with seven at UHG and two at Portiuncula Hospital - a drop of six on last Thursday.

Nationally, 122 COVID-19 patients were being treated in public hospitals last night - the lowest figure in over seven months.

It's a 54 per cent drop on the same day last month, when it stood at 263.

However, the national five-day moving average of new cases has risen slightly in the same timeframe, and now stands at 445.
