Opposition to suggested 'drinking zones' at Spanish Arch

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor says she's appalled at suggestions that certain areas of the Spanish Arch be designated as drinking zones.

Councillor Colettte Connolly says such proposals are completely ludicrous - and the city council should be making a greater effort to enforce existing drinking bye laws.

She says such laws exist in most European cities and are strictly enforced by police - and it's time for the local authority and Gardai to follow suit.

The indepenent Councillor argues public drinking is not acceptable and a shift in thinking is required.
