The HSE has issued an appeal, so that the public are aware of plans to refurbish the baby burial plot in Bohermore Cemetery.
The existing 'Plot of the Angels' has now reached capacity, and a new plot known as 'Leaba na Leanaí' is being developed at the site.
From February 1st, interments will take place at the newly developed 'Leaba na Leanaí'.
There won't be individual headstones, but families can have their baby's name included on a shared headstone.
The original plot needs considerable refurbishment work, including kerbing replacement and cleaning of naming stones.
A tree and shrubs will also be removed, something the HSE says is regrettable but necessary due to roots affecting the graves.
The works means that all items must be temporarily removed, and families are asked to collect individual plaques, stones, statues and toys.
Anything left unclaimed will be removed on February 16th and stored securely by Galway City Council until May.
