Plans for redevelopment of Seapoint arcade hit stumbling block

Plans for a major redevelopment of the Seapoint arcade building in Salthill have hit a stumbling block.

Oldside Enterprises Ltd has already secured permission for an overhaul to the main building that would include a new casino and overhead apartments.

But now, planning permission has been refused to demolish a building at 183 Upper Salthill that forms part of the planned redevelopment

Relatively small in size on the very left hand side of Seapoint, the developer had argued it's condition means it's only feasible to knock and replace it.

But city planners have refused permission - saying it's of architectural significance and only one of three remaining examples of such buildings in Salthill.
