Plans have been submitted for energy upgrades to Coral Leisure Centre in Ballinasloe.
The upgrades would include the replacement of an existing gas boiler heating system with a more efficient air to water pump as well as air tightening measures.
The plans include an agreement with the ESB to design, install and maintain the system for 10 years.
The project would save an estimated 250 tonnes of carbon a year as well as a significant reduction in energy costs.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Alan Harney says that the investment is welcome.
