Nice story this...
Yesterday morning, Friday, the Coast Guard coordination centre at Malin Head coordinated a request from Mayo County Council to transfer a ballot box to Inishbiggle Island ahead of the Presidential election.
At 8:15am, the Achill Coast Guard boat transported a member of An Garda Síochána to the island, enabling the safe carriage of the election box and supporting residents in exercising their right to vote.
Later that evening, just after 6:00pm, the Achill Coast Guard repeated the operation, returning the election box to the mainland under An Garda Siochana supervision, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

1pm
Tallies continue and Catherine Connolly is now almost certain to be elected President of Ireland.
In some areas, she is being reported to have picked up four in every five votes which is quite staggering.
Looking at the Roscommon/Galway Tally from an hour ago. Some interesting percentages.
In Ballinasloe, Connolly picked up 88% of the vote in one box in Ballinasloe, Heather Humphreys got 49% in one box in Roscommon and Jim Gavin (remember, he withdrew from the campaign but was still a candidate) got 13% in one box in Gorthaganny.
HOWEVER...As for when Catherine Connolly is deemed elected and all the votes are counted (And let me remind you, all spoiled votes must be adjudicated on before that happens)....How long have you got? It could be over by 7pm...Or it could go on until near midnight. No one knows yet.
12 Noon
Tallies are continuing across the country with one of the main talking points being the number of spoiled votes.
In some areas of Dublin, the number of spoiled votes is actually higher than votes for the candidates.
Otherwise, Catherine Connolly's lead continues and indeed has strengthened. In Mayo, for example, she is expected to win by a landslide.
FINAL TALLY COMPLETE IN ROSCOMMON/GALWAY
Connolly: 56.3%
Gavin: 6.1%
Humphreys: 26.4%
Spoilt: 11.2%

11am
Catherine Connolly is on her way to becoming the 10th President of Ireland.
Boxes were opened at Count Centres around the country with early indications that the Independent candidate is well clear of her opponent, Heather Humphreys.
Following the conclusion of voting at 10pm last night, the turnout in Galway ranged from 36 to 56%, with the highest recorded in Salthill, Galway City West.
In the Roscommon/Galway constituency, the turnout ranged from 48.4% to 30.8%, with 37.45% of voters in the Ballinasloe district, which covers the east of the county, casting their ballots.
Votes are still being sorted across the country, but tallies indicate it's one-way traffic.
