The Ballinasloe Flood Relief Scheme remains on track to enter the planning phase in the first half of this year.
The area has long been calling for action, with Ballinasloe facing significant flood events in the past, including in November 2009 and during the winter of 2015/2016.
Draft drawings for a public exhibition are expected to be completed this month, and will be advertised by the Office of Public Works in due course.
The scheme is on schedule to be submitted to the relevant Government Department for confirmation by summer of next year.
All going well with planning, construction is expected to begin a year after that - by mid-2028.
