Public consultation due on city speed limit changes

A public consultation is due shortly on speed limit changes proposed for Galway City.

The 30km/h limit within Galway City Centre will be expanded to include to housing estates managed by the City Council, and roads around school entrances.

It'll also be applied to roads classed as having more vulnerable road users, like Ballyloughane and Silverstrand.

At City Hall this week, councillors gave their approval for the plans to move to the public consultation stage.

Councillor Shane Forde believes that speed limits are routinely ignored due to lack of Garda enforcement and other measures should be looked at.
